Speaking the truth in love is the responsibility of the speaker, and the responsibility of the hearer is to discern if what comes to the hearer is the truth. How do we discern? By weighing that which has been said with the word of God and His promises for us and our lives.
It is the speaker’s responsibility to make sure love is what is motivating the words coming out of their mouth and to make sure their conscience is clear. This doesn’t mean we use careless words causing damage to people’s emotions, but we are motivated by love when we speak.
I have come to realise that even if words are carefully chosen, offence is an option and a route the hearer or reader of the words can CHOOSE. Note it’s the hearer’s decision to embrace the words or to choose to take offence.
We evangelise because we love the lives of friends, family, and the world.
We correct each other as believers because we love one another. Sometimes correction involves speaking the truth in love to one another.
A believer should strive not to be ruled by emotions but to weigh the word brought in the light of biblical truths.
The error of Saul as I see it is was that he let his emotions rule him. Jesus came through the lineage of David. Jesus lives in you!
“I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit—
