Reading these verses recently made me reflect on the generation ahead of my generation in my family, and I can largely say the words of this Psalm are true.
I grew up knowing my parents to fear the Lord and obey His commands, and to the glory of God, I can say their children (my siblings and I ) are successful everywhere.
It’s funny that the Psalm says successful everywhere. For me, it means no matter where those children find themselves in the future, they will reap the benefits of their parent’s actions (fearing the Lord). This has been true in my family. None of my parents’ children are left in the country we were born in, but in the new locations we are at, I can say in my definition of success, God has and is prospering us.
As much as I reflect on this as a way of reflective thanks to my parents (my mother) - who at this moment is around to take the compliment on behalf of my parents, it’s also a challenge to me and the kind of legacy I want to leave for my children.
Acting in the fear of the Lord is not just to benefit you now, but it serves as a healthy investment for the future. The Bible also says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, so it’s no surprise that the effects of wisdom in all we do will eventually lead to a healthy and prospering family.
“Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever. Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.
