No one was ever honoured for what they received

In many cultures, honour is seen as an outward gesture. Some people will like prostrating or kneeling down in a show of respect. I don’t detest it; I will gladly do the outward gestures if it communicates honour to the receiver, but is it really honour?

Apostle Paul was encouraging the believers in Rome, and he said this:

Isn’t it interesting that we can owe honour! The interesting thing about the debt of honour is that you are the only one you know to whom you owe it. And I want to believe it pleases the Lord when it’s paid.

The payment of honour is a good relationship—letting that person you owe it to know that they have a special place in your heart. Gifts, recognition, periodic phone calls, visits etc., are all ways of showing honour.

“[7] Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. ”
