The Young Wise Pharmacist
The Young Wise Pharmacist-
I have worked as a community pharmacist in the UK for over 15 years. For the last two years, I have job-shared with a younger pharmacist. As the World of community pharmacy is in the UK you hardly work alongside another pharmacist, but with experience, you can tell what the day before has been like even if you’re not present.
When I went on holiday this year I got the young wise pharmacist I job share with to cover the day I would normally work because I thought continuity is good for my colleagues. This next paragraph is an extract from her message to me when I came back from holiday
"Bolade, honestly met a lot of pharmacists but I have learnt a lot from you and am keen to continuously do so, so if there’s anything that I personally can do better in my practice or improve on please do let me know.
I’m trying to improve and I was hoping I would be able to learn from yourself the various different approaches you take when dealing with staff and management/leadership style/skills. Thank you so much for your help, really appreciate it."

In summary
I share this not out of self pride, I am grateful to receive the compliment but the journey has not been easy. I have failed as a leader, I have let myself and my colleagues down and I have had my integrity questioned.
This Wise Young Pharmacist has realised that they don’t have to wear my scars to learn the lessons.
I am a strong believer in mentorship and as human beings, we need to have good role models in our lives and be humble enough to yield to their advice. Do you have a role model? Do they know? Are you yielding to their advice?
This Young Wise Pharmacist is going places, I know it!
