Some people’s love language is receiving gifts, and some people feel fulfilled when they give gifts. I fall into the latter category.
I feel uncomfortable when I receive gifts, so much so that over the years I have had to retrain myself to receive and love receiving.
The attitude of not liking receiving gifts also goes into how I treat myself. I will gladly spend on people and feel fulfilled while doing so, but to spend that amount on myself is a real struggle. Marriage has been my saving grace in this area. Niki knows this weakness of mine, and she has been a God-sent helper in this area.
Not being able to receive can also present itself like not being able to receive advice, not accepting help e.t..c
I read about people similar to me, and one of the ways they’ve managed to train themselves in this area is by paying themselves. According to them, when they get paid, they will give a portion of the money to God, then meet their responsibilities, and then pay themselves.
When they pay themselves, they can decide to treat themselves to a nice pair of shoes, perfume, etc.
Why don’t you treat yourself to something nice today? You deserve it.
“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.
