?Adulting can be so complicated. As children, we crave independence so badly, but as adults, we often find ourselves thinking, “Can I please just get a little bit of direction?” We get completely overwhelmed trying to make major life choices:
?Which house should I buy?
?Should we move or should we stay?
?If you are married, carrying the weight of these decisions can take a massive toll and put a serious strain on your relationship.
?There was a guy named Ezra, a priest who was leading God’s people. He faced these exact kinds of heavy "adulting" questions, too.
?Ezra 8:21-22 NKJV
?[21] Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. [22] For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.”
?It wasn’t just Ezra who turned to fasting when facing big decisions; the apostles did the exact same thing.
?Acts 13:2-3 NKJV
?[2] As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” [3] Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.
?For a Christian, fasting helps unlock the answers to the deepest questions of the heart. There isn’t a step-by-step rulebook for adulting, which is exactly why Jesus promised to send us the Holy Spirit. Fasting helps us "tune in" to the Holy Spirit’s wavelength.
?John 14:26 NKJV
?[26] But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
?Are you facing a massive decision right now? Let’s fast!
