Gossiping is something that permeates our culture. In a work environment, you don’t want to be the one they gossip about, but to be honest, over time I have come to a place where it matters little to me what people say as long as I know I’ve acted justly and righteously.

God takes a very dim view, however, when His children gossip about each other.

It usually starts with a casual conversation about someone not in the room. If the conversation is edifying, then that’s ok, but when it starts putting someone in a bad light, then the problem starts. You might think I’m okay; my mouth is shut as long as I don’t say anything. I’m not gossiping! Unfortunately, that’s wrong; just by being in the room where people are gossiping, you’ve harmed yourself.

The words that come out of our mouths show the state of our hearts. As brothers and sisters in Christ, our words are meant to build one another up, not to tear each other down.

Don’t gossip; don’t sit around gossiping. Kill the flame of gossip.

Your tongue is to build up, not tear down. You have the mind of Christ.
