Recently I posted about how enriching having a diverse group of friends is- Different races, tribes, and nationalities. But I feel it won’t be fair not to talk about the challenges.
"Are you fighting?" Is the question our kids ask a lot when we have our friends from shared heritage round. They ask it less now because they know better!
When we talk with people from the same heritage as us. There is what seems like an instant connection! We shout over each other, and all of this is fun! PURE FUN!
There is a contrast in our conversations when we have friends from other backgrounds. It’s more "Gentle". So the question is: Are we (Niki and I) being ourselves in these different settings? YES! In fact, both are so enriching and different kinds of fun!
Some of our friends from other heritages have been offended by how we’ve said things that have come out so innocently from us, but these friends have confronted us about it. In turn we apologised, and we learnt. These friends are the closest friends in our lives!

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NLT
[4] Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud [5] or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
As a Yoruba proverb translates: As close as the tongue is to the teeth, sometimes they have misunderstood.
Convenience can be an enemy of the best! Expand your friendship circle!
